Semester Exam Project
This project was very interesting and had a new twist on high school exams that brings students into the design of the learning curriculum. I enjoyed this project because it made student involvement something that had real life applications. I am going to study for this exam by reviewing the problems i created and working with my peers to recall what we learned int the past few months by using flashcards and quizzing each other. This semester as a whole has been very good and i have manged to complete the majority of the assigned home work, I really like how Effi gave us the option to do certain additional math problems that gave us the option of another class next year and the additional challenge that comes with it.
Project reflection
For this project we found a picture that had lots of nice curved lines and trace a few of the lines on a transparency graph with a visa vi marker. After that we found the curve of the lines using the math we just learned. Then, once we had found all of the necessary portions to give an accurate description that would allow a person to graph the same line using a graphing calculator. After the technical portions of the project were completed we drew a picture with lines that match the ones we graphed, this picture could be as elaborate or plain as the person choose. The important part of the project was to give students a real life example of how math can be used in many different subjects, such as art. Another important part was teaching us how to find a line and then use math to figure out how to recreate the same line on a graph. I learned how to take a given line, using zeros, and find what the curve of the parabola or a cubic equation. If given the opportunity to redo the project I would like to have more time on the art piece. I think this because I felt a good amount of challenge with the math portion but I feel my art piece was not to the best of my artistic ability. I have found that one of my strengths was my ability to efficiently
complete the math portion while my weakness was my art abilities for the
drawing.
