happiness and meaning
I think that my personal philosophy would be one of simplicity in which I find certain happy moments in little things that I don’t look for but they arrive on their own and leave whenever I eventually finish the task or I become bored. This way that I live my life is one that others would find odd or unorthodox, I am passionately intrigued about the things that I enjoy and very angered by things that I find unengaging. I personally think that certain things that get assigned that give too much freedom are very difficult, I prefer being told what I need to write about. That makes this project very difficult for me because I like to follow very specific directions and be able to take certain liberties where I may find flaws in the project from my point of view, this aspect of my personal philosophy reminds me of a ted talk we watched about how to much freedom is actually inhibition some of the population.
native american historical inquiry
How can an examination of multiple sources and perspectives lead to a more enlightened understanding of history AND contemporary social, cultural and political realities?
reflection
In this project we watched a movie and read an assortment of different readings varying from short stories to college essays. In these readings we worked to understand the many different perspectives that Native Americans have about themselves, white people, and their position in today’s economy.
The most significant lesson I learned from this project was to try to understand the consequences of my actions before I go and try to take over the world. My perspective has changed throughout this project by realizing that Columbus may have made America as it is today but he still nearly destroyed an entire culture. This project was very enlightening to me so I can better understand what happens when a person or group of people makes one bad choice.
The seminar we held at the end of the project was a way to express our new found ideas to our peers and finalize the project. In the seminar I was in most of the opinions were along the same lines, what Columbus did was wrong and that we should not idolize him and give him a holiday. One of the connections I made was that it is very wrong that we idolize someone who nearly committed genocide.
An examination of multiple sources and perspectives can lead to a more enlightened understanding of history and contemporary social, cultural and political realities by showing and explaining a new perspective from a minority group and shedding light on the subjects that are glazed over by a majority group.
