la poesia de la comida
Ode to corn flour
You are the sunset of a warm summers’ eve Enriched like a blank canvas from the tastes that surround you The solid foundation of a mansion of flavors Your gentle kneading sounds like the waves washing up onto the sea shore You look like a small mountain of dough waiting for the sprouts of flavor to be planted on your hill side Your delightful smells fill the air like baking bread You absorb flavors like a dried sponge You are the sunset of a warm summers’ eve |
In the course of this project we chose a country to study and then chose a dish to recreate. Once we had chosen our dish to recreate we made the decision of weather we would write about our entire dish or just one ingredient. We later wrote a poem in the style of Pablo Neruda, an ode. Once we had written our poem about our desired dish we translated it into Spanish. Later, we sent it in to get revised by our teacher, then we made the changes and had our final exhibition.
I learned that there are many different styles of cooking through out the world, I have never been out side the United States and have only experienced the Americanized versions of foreign dishes. I thought our exhibition could have been a bit more planned out and designed to have the audience ask about our poems and not just try the food. The most challenging part about the exhibition was creating the dish the night before, I had no idea how long it would take, in the future I plan on giving more time to new things so i do not fall behind. The most enjoyable part of the project was the exhibition and seeing all of the happy people, also i really enjoyed hearing all of the compliment about my dish. If I were to do this project again i would allot more time for the cooking aspect of the project. I am most proud of my dish and how pleased it made all of the exhibition goers.
el cuento infitales
The children story project was about learning the effects of pictures and different grammatical sequences on little children. First we did a mini project wherein we made a story about Durango. Later we moved into the larger project where we made our stories.
My favorite part of the story project was the exhibition at Needham elementary. My least favorite part of the story was all of the drawing, all in all the drawing was very tedious. I learned from this project how distracted elementary kids are and how to write a reasonable piece of Spanish for public readings. In this project I would have brought my story home earlier to work on it along with more refinement.

Dia de los muertos
Calavera Poem

Project reflection
In this project i have learned the importance of the dead in the Spanish cultures. Although i thought the exhibition was crowded and unorganized the overall theme and feel of it was great a good first exhibition. The overall most challenging part of the project was the making of my calaca was difficult with the paper mache, the most exciting part was the exhibition. If I would have done any thing differently i would have spent more time refining my calaca. I am most proud of my poem because of the close relative I based it about and the work put into it.
